Call for Volunteers

Call for Volunteers

AACL-IJCNLP 2026 (the 5th Asia-Pacific Chapter of the Association for Computational Linguistics & the 15th International Joint Conference on Natural Language Processing) will be held in Hengqin, China from November 6th to November 10th, 2026.

We are currently looking for enthusiastic and dedicated student volunteers to contribute to the success of this event. Selected volunteers will receive complimentary registration to the main conference (including the ACL membership fee of the current year and paper registration fee if applicable), workshops, tutorials, and social events.

Please note that volunteering only covers a registration fee waiver. If you need additional funding for travel expenses, we recommend applying for the Diversity and Inclusion Subsidies.

Roles and Responsibilities

Volunteer tasks encompass various aspects such as assisting at the registration desk, on-boarding briefs to delegates checking in, problem solving, providing directional support at the conference venue, organizing and filling delegate packs, overseeing poster sessions and managing poster board sessions and displays, coordinating volunteers and serving as volunteer coordinator for the day, and providing AV/technical support, including social media management and aiding with conference events, including tutorials, the main conference, and workshops (either online or in-person versions).

If you apply and are selected as a virtual volunteer, your roles and responsibilities will be monitoring content on platforms. As a virtual attendee, you will report content issues on publications and report issues to the on-site technical support team.

With this knowledge, please make sure you possess the skills to handle such requirements during the conference.

Selection Criteria

The selection process for the Student Volunteer Program will involve a careful evaluation of the materials submitted by applicants. Priority consideration will be given to individuals who meet either of the following criteria:

  • Students who will be presenting a paper at the main conference or an associated workshop, whether in person or online. We encourage both newcomers and those with prior volunteer experience to apply.
  • Students who are enthusiastic about assisting with various aspects of the conference, genuinely hoping to collaborate in making AACL-IJCNLP 2026 a success.
  • Student presenters who demonstrate financial need (Applicants can optionally include a letter from a faculty advisor to explain financial need).

Application Instructions

  • Applicants must be full-time students.
  • Submission requires a completed application form with a few questions and a concise one-page CV (resume).
  • Upon acceptance, access will be provided to a Volunteer Website with essential information, FAQs, training materials, and a scheduling system to choose volunteer days and roles.
  • To receive a complimentary registration for the ACL Event, it is crucial to note that a minimum of 10 hours of volunteer work at the event is mandatory. These hours can be divided across several shifts on different days or completed in a single shift, and the shifts will be scheduled to maximise volunteer access to the conference events. Failure to meet the volunteer commitment will result in being charged the in-person conference fee.

Conference Registration

Important Note: Please refrain from registering until you receive a confirmation of acceptance into the Volunteer Service.

  • If your application is approved for a registration fee waiver, you will receive a complimentary registration code with your subsidy notification. Please use this code to complete your conference registration.
  • If your application is denied, please make sure to pay your conference registration to ensure your paper is listed in the AACL-IJCNLP Proceedings and remains in the program.
  • The registration deadline for student volunteer applicants is extended to October 17, 2026 (AOE), so you will have sufficient time to complete your registration after the decisions are announced.

Important Dates

All deadlines are 11:59 PM UTC-12:00 (“anywhere on Earth”).

  • Application Deadline: October 7, 2026
